Submariner
Beau Stanton
Wythe Hotel, Brooklyn, NY
Opening reception Thursday, February 19, 6-8 p.m.
Quattlebaum Foretich Gallery is pleased to announce Beau Stanton's video installation Submariner will debut in Kimia Ferdowsi Kline's curatorial program at Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn, with special thanks to art advisor Carrie Mackin.
Submariner is an animated painting that follows a man-powered submarine as it traverses through restless seas of ornamented waves, ascending and descending the ocean depths, throughout cycles of day and night. As the journey unfolds, different lenses shift into view removing visual obstacles that reveal more of what lies beneath each successive layer; exposing the submarine, its inner workings, and finally x-ray vision. The work provides a unique opportunity for the viewer to continue to discover new elements and events that appear throughout the ten minute loop of the piece to create a living, breathing painting.
Wythe Hotel, under the guidance of curator and artist Kimia Ferdowsi Kline, continues adding orignial artwork to its permanent collection. With commissioned works by Duke Riley, Steve Powers, and Tom Fruin already in the public spaces, the Hotel began selecting pieces for its rooms in January 2014. Building a collection of original artwork continues Wythe Hotel's commitment to showcasing the talents of artists and designers, while enhancing our guests’ experience in the rooms.
